Goalkeeper Pixé dies after saving penalty in Pará match

Medical staff at the venue provided immediate assistance before transferring Antonio Edson dos Santos Sousa to a hospital, but he did not survive.

Goalkeeper Antonio Edson dos Santos Sousa, known as Pixé, died shortly after saving a penalty during the 2025 Homeland Week games in the municipality of Augusto Corrêa, northeastern Pará, according to cnnbrasil.com.

The incident occurred after Pixé dived to the right corner to stop the shot. As he walked back towards his teammates, he suddenly collapsed. Medical staff at the venue provided immediate assistance before transferring him to a hospital, but he did not survive. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Following the tragedy, the city of Augusto Corrêa canceled Wednesday’s (3) scheduled matches. The amateur competition is expected to resume the next day.

In a statement, the Paraense Futsal Federation (FEFUSPA) expressed condolences over Pixé’s death and extended sympathies to his family and friends.
