GCC envoys to IAEA urge immediate de-escalation amid concerns over Iranian nuclear sites

Current developments pose serious threats to regional and international security, expansion of the conflict could lead to disastrous consequences –Talal Al-Fassam

The ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries accredited to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have jointly called for an immediate halt to regional escalation, particularly warning against the grave risks of targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.

The unified message was delivered during an emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors by Kuwaiti Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the IAEA, Talal Al-Fassam, in his capacity as head of the GCC Ambassadors Group in Vienna, reports Al-Rai daily.

In his statement, Ambassador Al-Fassam stressed that the current developments pose serious threats to regional and international security, warning that the expansion of the conflict could lead to disastrous consequences. He emphasized that calm and self-restraint remain the most effective tools to prevent further tension.

The Gulf states reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the primary approach to resolving regional crises, calling on the international community—especially the IAEA Board of Governors—to fulfill its responsibilities and actively address the chronic and escalating challenges facing the region.

The GCC statement also reaffirmed the group’s unwavering support for peaceful conflict resolution, highlighting the importance of learning from past crises to avoid repeating the mistakes of history.

Additionally, the group acknowledged the IAEA’s ongoing efforts to monitor radiation levels and requested continued updates to member states to ensure transparency and preparedness in the event of any nuclear-related incident.
