Fourfold rise expected by year-end as Kuwait tightens grip on citizenship fraud
No room for forgery as nation steps up intensified historic campaign to protect national identity, a turning point in the country’s approach to citizenship fraud, transforming the issue from a longstanding challenge into a decisive area of reform, with long-term implications for security, governance, and social stability; number of proven forgery cases in 2025 far surpass previous years

Kuwait has made unprecedented progress this year in tackling citizenship fraud, with the number of proven forgery cases in 2025 far surpassing previous years.
The pace of investigations and revocations has accelerated sharply, reflecting the government’s determination to protect the integrity of national identity as the total number of fraudulent citizenship cases uncovered in the first nine months of 2025 alone is three times higher than the number processed during entire 2024.
This remarkable increase underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are pursuing this sensitive issue.
The Supreme Nationality Investigation Committee, which handles these cases, recorded an average of 100 revocations per session in 2024.
In comparison, the average this year has surged to around 350 revocations per meeting. If this momentum continues, the total number of revoked citizenships and their dependents by year’s end could reach nearly four times the 2024 figure.
The officials have praised the coordinated efforts of all government institutions involved, noting that investigations are being carried out with professionalism, accuracy, and high efficiency.
The sources highlighted that every file undergoes rigorous scrutiny, with absolute scientific certainty required before revocation decisions are issued. This ensures that no individual is wrongfully deprived of their citizenship.
A hotline also continues to play an active role, receiving reports and information from the public. The authorities say this has further strengthened the investigative process by providing additional leads and evidence for examination.
The sources emphasized that these firm measures are part of a wider national strategy to safeguard the citizenship system, prevent future manipulation, and preserve the authenticity of Kuwait’s identity. By decisively confronting forgery, officials aim to permanently close the door on any attempts to exploit or undermine the nationality file.
Ultimately, Kuwait’s intensified campaign in 2025 marks a turning point in the country’s approach to citizenship fraud — transforming the issue from a longstanding challenge into a decisive area of reform, with long-term implications for security, governance, and social stability.
