Five individuals stripped of Kuwaiti citizenship due to dual nationality

An official supplement to the government gazette “Kuwait Alyawm” has been issued, announcing two rulings by the Supreme Committee for Investigating Kuwaiti Nationality, which revoked citizenship from five individuals due to dual nationality violations.

The first decision, No. 9/78 – 2 of 2025, declared the loss of Kuwaiti citizenship for two women in accordance with Article 10 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, which governs the Nationality Law. The second decision, No. 9/79 – 2 of 2025, revoked citizenship from three other individuals, based on Article 11 of the same law, reports Al-Rai daily.

  • Article 10 of the Nationality Law stipulates that, “A Kuwaiti woman who marries a foreigner shall not lose her Kuwaiti nationality unless she voluntarily acquires her husband’s nationality upon her own request.”
  • Article 11 states that, “A Kuwaiti citizen shall lose nationality if they voluntarily acquire the nationality of another country. Their Kuwaiti wife does not lose her nationality unless she adopts the new nationality.
  • Minor children also lose their Kuwaiti citizenship if they are included in the father’s newly acquired nationality, in accordance with that nationality’s law. However, they may declare to the Minister of Interior their wish to retain Kuwaiti nationality within two years of reaching legal adulthood.”

The decisions reflect the government’s ongoing enforcement of nationality laws and its efforts to preserve national identity by addressing violations related to unauthorized dual citizenship.
