Fire and Hazard Response Center; state-of-the-art facility among most modern in Mideast

Colonel Ali Al Marzouqi, Head of the Shaddadiya Hazardous Materials Center said the facility plays a key role in strengthening preparedness and responding to chemical, biological, and radiological incidents, reducing associated risks to the public and environment.
Located in Sabah Al-Salem University City, the center is one of Kuwait’s first specialized facilities for hazardous materials response. It is designed to protect lives and property while offering rapid intervention in emergency cases.
Equipped with advanced technology and modern construction standards, the center which is an affiliate of the Kuwait Fire Force, also serves as a training hub to educate personnel and raise environmental awareness.
The facility houses 10 state-of-the-art vehicles, laboratories for detecting liquid, solid, and radioactive materials, and specialized protective equipment.
It includes decontamination units capable of processing 70 people per hour, and disinfection mechanisms that can handle up to 100 individuals per hour, ensuring high efficiency in cases of emergencies.
Colonel Al Marzouqi explained that the center’s fire pump mechanism addresses building and vehicle fires, while its hazardous materials mechanism includes detection devices, leak-stopping equipment, protective suits, respirators, and disinfection tents. The reconnaissance mechanism employs remote-controlled robots and systems to detect chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear threats.
Since its inauguration on March 22, 2023, the Center has become a regional leader in specialized firefighting and hazardous materials response. Its sophisticated equipment and operational capabilities place it among the most advanced facilities in the Middle East, supporting both national security and sustainable development.
