‘Finance’ orders eviction of 22 expropriated properties by Sept 30 for public projects

The Ministry of Finance has launched the implementation of government plans to repurpose expropriated lands and properties for public benefit.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, it has begun procedures to evacuate 22 properties currently being used by public benefit associations.
The deadline for completing the eviction process has been set for September 30, after which the buildings will be demolished and the sites handed over to Kuwait Municipality to carry out planned development projects.
To facilitate the eviction process, the Ministry of Finance has formally requested the Ministry of Education to allocate alternative unused buildings — already designated for the Ministry of Finance — for temporary use by these public benefit associations.
These temporary permits are intended to smooth the transition and speed up the evacuation of the properties in question.
The Ministry emphasized that this step is in accordance with a previous Cabinet decision approving a one-year grace period requested by public benefit associations to delay eviction. T
hat grace period ends on September 30, and after that, the ministry will enforce eviction and removal according to its approved regulations and policies.
Among the 22 properties slated for demolition, some date back more than 40 years. Their original owners have already received compensation through official property appraisals at the time of expropriation.
However, the removal and redevelopment process was stalled, as these properties continued to be occupied by associations under temporary licenses, paying symbolic rents of no more than 50 Kuwaiti dinars per month.
The Ministry’s decision aims to optimize state property usage, eliminate unauthorized occupation, and move forward with national development plans. The cleared plots will contribute to public interest initiatives as part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure and support services across Kuwait.
