Fifth ring road tunnel opens in March, will reduce congestion
According to sources from the Ministry of Public Works, the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport is set to open the Fifth Ring Road Tunnel next March.
The sources told Al Jarida that the completion of the Fifth Ring Road development project will enhance traffic flow and alleviate congestion in surrounding areas, including Al Siddiq, Al Salam, Hatteen, Surra, and Cordoba.
The sources explained that the development project of the Fifth Ring Road involves the construction of a tunnel in both directions, with sub-paths towards Surra and Cordoba, as well as towards Al-Siddiq and Al-Salam. Additionally, Damascus Street will be converted into an overpass.
Furthermore, the sources emphasized that the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport prioritized the swift completion of the tunnel, despite facing numerous challenges related to the old infrastructure in the area.
In February 2024, the General Authority for Roads announced the opening of parts of the Fifth Ring Road, along with Al-Ghazali and Mohammed bin Qasim roads, as part of its ongoing development works. This initiative has significantly contributed to improving traffic flow in the surrounding areas thereby alleviating congestion.
