A special medical team at the Farwaniya Dental Center has performed a complex surgical procedure to treat severe atrophy in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) on both sides of a female patient in her thirties. The condition had caused her significant difficulty in opening her mouth, breathing, chewing, and speaking due to jaw asymmetry.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health described the surgery as a medical milestone in Kuwait, marking the first of its kind in the country. The procedure utilized advanced 3D virtual surgery technology, enabling the surgical team to plan with exceptional accuracy and design a fully customized artificial joint tailored to the patient’s unique facial structure and functional requirements, reports Al-Rai daily.
The surgery was led by maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Ahmed Al-Kandari in collaboration with the maxillofacial surgery unit team. The operation was completed successfully and is considered a major leap forward in the field of maxillofacial surgery, showcasing the capabilities of cutting-edge medical technologies.
Dr. Al-Kandari expressed his gratitude to Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi and Health Undersecretary Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi for their ongoing support in delivering high-quality patient care.
He also thanked the Assistant Undersecretary for Dental Affairs Dr. Ahmed Asad and the Head of the Farwaniya Specialized Dental Center, Dr. Suhaila Ashkanani, for creating a professional and well-equipped environment that made this achievement possible.
The Ministry emphasized that this success reflects the advanced level of specialized healthcare in Kuwait and highlights the expertise of national medical professionals in carrying out complex surgeries that meet international standards.
