The European Union Delegation to Kuwait launched the second edition of its cookbook, A Union of European Flavours, on October 20, bringing together recipes from all 27 EU member states to celebrate Europe’s rich culinary heritage and cultural diversity as Kuwait and the European Union mark 40 years of diplomatic relations.
The launch ceremony was held at Si Restaurant in the presence of European ambassadors accredited to Kuwait and invited guests. The publication features recipes contributed by the embassies of all 27 EU-member states in Kuwait, offering readers an opportunity to explore the distinctive food traditions, cultural identities and customs that have shaped European cuisine over generations.

More than a collection of recipes, the cookbook highlights the close relationship between food, history and identity. It reflects how culinary traditions preserve the stories, lifestyles and social customs of different communities, with recipes and cooking techniques passed down through generations.

Speaking at the launch, EU Ambassador to Kuwait H.E Anne Koistinen said the second edition coincided with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the European Union and Kuwait, describing the partnership as one built on shared values, dialogue and cooperation.
She noted that both sides share a deep appreciation for gastronomy and the rich heritage of food traditions. Diversity, she said, is a defining feature of European identity, with culinary traditions reflecting the history, creativity and way of life of individual countries and regions.
These traditions serve as a living record of Europe’s cultural and social development, preserving the knowledge and customs of earlier generations while continuing to shape contemporary lifestyles. Ambassador Koistinen also highlighted the European Union’s commitment to maintaining rigorous food safety and quality standards to protect consumers and ensure the quality of food products.
The launch featured a live culinary presentation by Si Restaurant head chef Marco Vigonovo, whose menu drew inspiration from European culinary traditions and his exploration of Mediterranean cuisine, where different cultures, ingredients and flavours come together.
Sustainability was also central to the culinary presentation, with seasonal ingredients and local produce used to demonstrate a responsible approach to food preparation. The menu highlighted how culinary heritage can be celebrated alongside environmental awareness and the efficient use of available resources.
