. . . violations at Al-Mubarakiya could draw fines of up to 5,000 dinars for businesses

The Environmental Police Department has issued 30 smoking violations against individuals during an intensive inspection campaign at Al-Mubarakiya Market, the Ministry of Interior said on Monday.

The campaign, carried out by the Environmental Police Department of the Security Directorates Affairs Sector, also resulted in one littering violation and a violation against an establishment for allowing customers to smoke inside its premises. The Ministry said legal measures were taken against all violators.

The field campaign was part of the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing efforts to enforce the Environmental Protection Law, curb violations and maintain public cleanliness and a civilized appearance, the ministry said in a statement posted on Instagram. The inspection focused on detecting smoking violations in enclosed and semi-enclosed areas, as well as cases of waste being discarded outside designated areas.

Under the law, smoking in enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces carries a fine ranging from 50 to 100 dinars. Establishments that allow smoking face fines ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 dinars, while littering violations carry fines ranging from 50 to 500 dinars. The Ministry of Interior urged the public to comply fully with the Environmental Protection Law and refrain from smoking in prohibited areas to avoid legal accountability and financial penalties.
