Embassy of India to Host Three-Day Yoga Festival to Mark International Day of Yoga

The Embassy of India in Kuwait has announced a three-day Yoga Festival from 19 to 21 June 2026 to commemorate the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY-2026), with the main celebration scheduled for 20 June at the Boulevard Cricket Stadium in Salmiya.

The Yoga Festival aims to promote the practice of yoga and its benefits for physical, mental and emotional well-being, while encouraging broader community participation in wellness-focused activities.

The IDY-2026 celebrations in Kuwait were officially launched on 29 May with a women-led wellness session held at the lawns of India House. The event was inaugurated by the Ambassador of India to Kuwait, H.E. Mrs. Paramita Tripathi, and H.E. Sheikha Shaikha Al Sabah, Padma Shri awardee, Founder of Dar Atma and President of the Kuwait Yoga Committee. The launch event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, wellness practitioners and guests from across Kuwait.

As part of the lead-up to International Day of Yoga, the Embassy has organized a series of curtain-raiser events across the country to increase awareness about yoga and encourage participation from diverse segments of society. These activities are designed to highlight yoga’s universal appeal and its role in promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

On 30 May, the Embassy, in collaboration with the Indian Dentists’ Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK) and the Kerala Ayurvedic Health Institute, conducted a yoga workshop at the Embassy premises. Additional yoga sessions have also been held at several Indian schools throughout Kuwait, while numerous community organizations, yoga institutes and Kuwaiti partners are expected to host related activities in the coming weeks.

The International Day of Yoga originated from a proposal made by Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014. The proposal received overwhelming international support, with 177 countries co-sponsoring the resolution that designated 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. Since its first observance in 2015, the annual event has grown into a global movement promoting wellness, harmony and sustainable living.

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” underscores the importance of yoga in supporting physical fitness, mental wellness and emotional resilience throughout life. The theme highlights the growing need for healthy lifestyles amid evolving global health challenges and ageing populations, while emphasizing yoga’s role as an accessible and holistic approach to preventive healthcare.

In addition to the annual celebrations, the Embassy of India continues to promote wellness through regular yoga workshops conducted every Friday and Saturday, encouraging community members to incorporate yoga into their daily routines.

The Embassy has invited residents of Kuwait to actively participate in the forthcoming International Day of Yoga activities and join the global movement promoting holistic health, well-being and a balanced way of life.

Further details regarding registration, venue arrangements and event timings will be announced through the Embassy’s official communication channels and social media platforms.
