“Electricity Ministry” to decide next week about ‘new work shift system’

As part of the new work shifts, next week the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, will decide on the new shift system to be implemented starting from the beginning of the new year. This decision comes after the Civil Service Council rejected the existing shift system currently in effect.

Informed sources within the ministry stated that the Undersecretaries of the Ministers, discussed the shift systems that each department will adopt for its employees, in line with the work shifts specified by the Civil Service Bureau’s decision. These systems will be submitted for approval starting from the beginning of January, 2025.

The sources explained that a shift system that works well for employees in one department may not be suitable for another. Therefore, Ministry officials have decided to leave the determination of the most appropriate shift system to the managers of each department.

The sources stated that the Civil Service Bureau had previously warned the Ministry multiple times after rejecting its repeated requests to maintain the current system against imposing absence penalties on Ministry employees who insist on working under the existing shift system.

Moreover, the sources indicated that the Ministry plans to submit a letter of exemption to the Civil Service Bureau, requesting that its employees be exempted from the absence penalty for the year 2024. This is due to their use of the fingerprint system, which the Bureau has rejected.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Electricity will begin evaluating its employees starting from the beginning of the New Year, 2025. The aim is to identify employees who have received an excellent grade so that they can be awarded the excellent work bonus.

The sources indicated that the Ministry’s Personnel Affairs Sector has requested its officials, not to approve the transfer of employees wishing to move from one sector to another, or from one department to another, until the evaluation process is completed by their official at their current work site.
