Electricity load index returns to safe levels after surge in consumption

The electricity load index has returned to the safe zone (green), registering 9,659 megawatts (MW), following a sharp rise late last week when consumption exceeded 12,000 MW — one of the highest levels recorded this year.
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy sources attributed the drop in load to the reintegration of production units which were under maintenance, and helped ease pressure on the national power grid. Nonetheless, the sources emphasized the MEW continues to monitor the network closely, ensuring its stability and readiness to meet growing demand as summer temperatures rise gradually.
The ministry is committed to completing scheduled maintenance on production units to ensure optimal performance during peak periods.
This update comes after the Salmiya W main substation went out of service earlier, causing a partial power outage in several parts of the Hawalli Governorate. Emergency teams responded swiftly, and repairs were expected to be completed soon.
