Electricity cut off from violating farms in Al-Wafra ahead of eviction

Confirming what Al-Rai reported on its front page on Sunday, the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs (PAAF), in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Water, has cut off electricity to dozens of violating agricultural plots in the Al-Wafra area, after it was found that they were being used for purposes other than those officially designated.
Informed sources told Al-Rai that the campaign was conducted under the direct supervision of the Authority’s Director, Salem Al-Hay, with close follow-up by the Supervisor of Support Services at the Al-Wafra Department and Head of the Control and Inspection Section, Abdullah Al-Rashidi, and in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Electricity and Water.
The sources added that the Authority plans to launch additional campaigns in the coming days, during which electricity will also be cut off from other violating holdings that have recently been issued withdrawal decisions for breaching regulatory requirements, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to the sources, these measures are a preliminary step toward the permanent withdrawal of violating plots, in implementation of the recommendations of the committee formed by the Council of Ministers in April last year. The committee called for taking all necessary legal measures against violators, in addition to holding accountable any negligence or laxity by Authority employees in carrying out their duties.
The Authority affirmed that it will continue to enforce all legal and regulatory measures aimed at protecting agricultural land and ensuring its proper use in line with the objectives for which it was allocated, in a manner that supports food security and serves the public interest of the State.
