Egypt and Kuwait, a tale of two cultures

Speaking at a symposium at the Egyptian Writers Union, the Ambassador of Egypt to Kuwait Osama Shaltout stressed the importance of the cultural and intellectual exchange in communicating between Arab peoples, especially between poets and writers in the two countries, citing that this exchange has been over many years.

The ambassador praised the presence of many creative entities from both countries and their innovative literary productions. He appreciated the role of the brotherly State of Kuwait, the leadership, the government, and its people, in the field of enriching culture, as well as the General Syndicate of the Egyptian Writers Union and the artists participating in the symposium.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Bassim Abdel Azim, Chairman of the Arab Relations Committee at the General Union of the Egyptian Writers Union, who praised Kuwait’s important role in the cultural field, which enrich the Arab world. It is one of the important bridges to link artistic and cultural relations between Arab countries and calls for the need to represent cultural offices in Arab countries to participate through cultural linkage, through seminars by writers and poets residing in those countries.

The Writers Union of Egypt prepared a memorial seminar for Mr. Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain (Al-Babtain Foundation for Arab Poetry) and talked about Kuwait’s role and leadership, as well as the world of thought magazine issued by Kuwait, making people aware of the of Arab culture.

Dr. Abdel Tawab Mahmoud also praised the important role played by Egypt and Kuwait at all cultural and artistic platforms. Participating Kuwaiti writers were Dr. Fawaz Al-Hudairi, Professor Ali Al-Sabiri, poets Obaid Al-Ajlani and Farhan Al-Rashed. The Egyptian counterparts were Dr. Rashid Jarri, Dr. Saleh Abdel Wahab, Dr. Jihan Al-Damardash, Dr. Rehab Ibrahim, Saleh Al-Ghazi and Majdi Shuaia. The poets were Mr. Mukhtar Issa, Hisham Al-Rifai, Thefar Al-Shinawi, Sherif Rashad and Hosni Al-Tahami.

Dr. Ibrahim Salam spoke on the role of the Egyptian embassy in Kuwait, in spreading cultural and artistic awareness through joint activities between Egypt and Kuwait. He explained that Arab artists excel and communicate in one language, which is the language of art.
