‘Education’, MEW join forces to promote energy conservation in schools

As part of the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy’s third national awareness campaign to rationalize energy consumption, titled “Wafer”, the Ministry of Education reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to implement its own comprehensive campaign, “Rasd”, across all schools and educational facilities to promote efficient electricity and water usage within the educational sector.

Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Mohammed Al-Khalidi, emphasized the ministry’s continued follow-up on rationalization efforts, expressing hope that the “Wafer” campaign will fulfill its goals of raising awareness across society, reports Al-Rai daily.

He noted that the “Rasd” campaign was launched following the recommendations of Minister of Education Dr. Jalal Al-Tabtabaei, with the goal of collecting accurate consumption data and developing effective implementation plans to enhance energy efficiency in schools.

Al-Khalidi pointed out that the campaign has already shown promising results in reducing consumption, demonstrating the positive effects of collaboration between ministries. He stressed the importance of continued inter-ministerial cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals and embedding conservation practices across sectors.

Khadija Abdul Redha, MEW head of the media and awareness team for conservation, explained that the “Wafer” campaign, launched last June, aims to build awareness about electricity and water conservation, instill sustainability values, and promote efficient resource use across different segments of society.

She highlighted the lecture held Tuesday at the Ministry of Education titled “Towards Sustainability… Save”, introduced practical applications and methods for reducing consumption and increasing efficiency.

Abdul Redha also expressed her appreciation for the Ministry of Education’s strong support and engagement in the campaign. She praised its effective role in delivering conservation messages to students, educators, and staff—helping to build a culture of awareness and responsibility within the school community and reinforcing the broader goals of the national campaign.
