Duo arrested for impersonating representatives of well-known companies

The Ministry of Interior announced that the Criminal Investigation Department has arrested two people for impersonating employees of well-known companies and sending text messages.

As part of the Criminal Security Sector’s ongoing efforts to combat cyber fraud, the General Department of Criminal Investigations – Cybercrime Combating Department – received a report about a local phone number sending scam messages impersonating representatives of major companies.

Following investigations, the authorities discovered that one suspect had obtained several phone numbers and provided them to his associate, who was later arrested in possession of multiple mobile phones.

He confessed to collaborating with an individual outside the country, who transferred money to him in exchange for using SIM cards to operate an application that sent fraudulent messages designed to commit financial fraud.

The General Department of Criminal Investigations said legal measures have been taken against the suspects, who will be deported in the interest of public safety.

The Ministry of Interior has issued a warning to the general public not to respond to anonymous messages or suspicious links seeking personal or banking information, urging everyone to verify the authenticity of messages through official sources.
