Dr. Huda elected to ELSO Board, landmark achievement for Kuwait

Dr. Al-Foudari, who heads the Council of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Departments at the Ministry of Health, is the first Arab physician from outside the United States to join ELSO’s Board of Directors.

In a new achievement highlighting Kuwait’s national medical excellence, the Ministry of Health announced the election of Dr. Huda Al-Foudari to the Board of Directors of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) for a four-year term starting January 2026.

The appointment is a recognition of her distinguished professional career and reflects Kuwait’s growing presence on the international medical stage.

The Ministry stated that Dr. Al-Foudari’s selection underscores the advanced level reached by Kuwaiti medical professionals and their ability to contribute effectively to shaping policies and scientific directions within leading global health organizations, particularly in the fields of intensive care and advanced life support technologies, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Founded in 1989, ELSO is one of the world’s foremost organizations specializing in the development of extracorporeal life support technologies.

It includes around 800 medical centers across 66 countries and focuses on the development and use of ECMO devices.

ECMO is among the most advanced medical technologies for supporting heart and lung functions in cases of acute failure and is currently available in intensive care units at Ministry of Health hospitals in Kuwait as part of an integrated specialized healthcare system.

Dr. Al-Foudari, who heads the Council of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Departments at the Ministry of Health, is the first Arab physician from outside the United States to join ELSO’s Board of Directors.

This milestone adds to Kuwait’s record of achievements in the health sector and strengthens the country’s presence in international medical forums.
