DP World ILT20 and Kuwait Cricket Board sign partnership with an event in Kuwait City on Monday

The DP World ILT20 and the Kuwait Cricket Board marked a partnership with a star-studded event in Kuwait City on Monday.

The celebration featured legendary cricketers and DP World ILT20 commentators Harbhajan Singh and Waqar Younis, who shared insights on cricket’s growth in the Gulf region during a chat hosted by broadcaster and former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull.

The event was also attended by senior management from DP World ILT20, the Kuwait Cricket Board, and the Emirates Cricket Board.

Highlighting the league’s growing footprint in Kuwait, six local players were signed at the DP World ILT20 Season 4 Player Auction in October — Mohamed Aslam (Sharjah Warriors), Mohamed Shafeeq (MI Emirates), Bilal Tahir (Desert Vipers), Meet Bhavsar (Gulf Giants), Adnan Idrees (Abu Dhabi Knight Riders), and Anudeep Chenthamara (Dubai Capitals).

President of Kuwait Cricket, Haider Farman, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “It was a pleasure to welcome the DP World ILT20 board and guests to Kuwait Cricket.

This collaboration represents a major step forward for the sport in our region, particularly with six Kuwait-based players being drafted in Season 4. The evening was made even more special by the presence of legends like Harbhajan Singh, Waqar Younis, Simon Doull, and a lively performance by Ali Zafar.”

Sajid Ashraf, Board Advisor at DP World ILT20, added: “Last night was historic for Kuwait Cricket and the Gulf region. Celebrating this partnership alongside cricketing icons underscores the growing confidence in our league and vision. The inclusion of six Kuwait-based players in Season 4 sets a new benchmark for Gulf cricket — and this is just the beginning of an exciting chapter for the sport.”

Harbhajan Singh reflected on the opportunities the partnership offers emerging players: “It’s wonderful to be here in Kuwait with the DP World ILT20 team. This league provides a platform for local players to play alongside legends and showcase their talent on a global stage. I’m excited for Kuwait Cricket’s future, including the prospect of a stadium here, which will be a milestone for cricket in the region.”

Waqar Younis echoed the sentiment: “The DP World ILT20 is an incredible tournament, and it’s exciting to see the league grow each season. Opportunities created by DP World and the ILT20 are helping young players reach new heights. It’s a pleasure to celebrate this partnership here in Kuwait.”

Reflecting on the progress since the partnership was signed earlier this year, CEO of DP World ILT20 David White said: “Monday night celebrated the unifying power of cricket. Our partnership with Kuwait Cricket is a milestone for the Gulf region.

Since signing the agreement in May, the first DP World ILT20 Development Tournament in Kuwait was a resounding success, and six local players joined Season 4 squads. This alliance is designed for the long term and will continue to strengthen Kuwait cricket.”

The celebrations concluded with a live performance by renowned artist Ali Zafar, adding a vibrant finale to the evening. The event also featured the Kuwait Cricket Player Awards, honoring standout talent and performances in the country.
