Domestic tourism in Kuwait sees growing interest with new projects underway

Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor Sheikh Sabah Badr Al-Sabah said the demand for domestic tourism in Kuwait among both citizens and expatriates is growing, particularly during holiday seasons. He noted that several key tourism developments, such as Winterland, Keyland, and Al-Sabahiya, are effectively responding to this rising interest by expanding the country’s entertainment and leisure offerings.

His comments came during a field visit to the Messila Beach “Blaj 2” project, one of the standout developments by the Modern Tourism Projects Company. The visit included members of the board of directors, executive management, and representatives from the United Projects for Aviation Services Company (UPAC). Sheikh Sabah described the project as a significant recreational outlet that enhances the local and regional tourism landscape by offering comfort, diversity, and high-quality experiences, reports Al-Rai daily.

He affirmed that Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate will witness the launch of more entertainment and tourism projects designed to further bolster the domestic tourism sector. To support this effort, a Governorate Council has been established to review development proposals and coordinate with the private sector, aiming to raise service quality and meet the evolving expectations of both citizens and residents.

Abdullah Al-Jaafar, CEO of Tourism Enterprises Company, stated that the visit aimed to track progress on the Messila Beach project and ensure it aligns with the company’s vision to promote year-round tourism. Expected to open within a few months, the development spans 70,000 square meters and will offer family-friendly amenities such as swimming pools, water play areas, an event hall, restaurants, cafés, commercial facilities, and parking for 350 vehicles.

Al-Jaafar emphasized that the project targets year-round family tourism, accommodating both winter and summer visitors. He stressed the importance of cooperation between government entities and the private sector in developing high-quality tourism infrastructure that matches the ambitions of the Kuwaiti population.

Project General Manager Eng. Ahmed Sadiq revealed that the new additions to Messila Beach include modernly designed cafés and restaurants, along with areas designed to cater to specific community needs, such as women-only events and gatherings. These features aim to offer privacy, fun, and inclusivity. Sadiq anticipates that the project will officially open next September, pending final engineering approvals and licensing from the municipality, positioning it as a vital catalyst for stimulating domestic tourism and offering a unique blend of water activities and beach leisure.
