‘Diplomatic Institute’ hosts “Quraish” celebration in presence of numerous ambassadors

Sheikh Saud Nasser Diplomatic Institute held a celebration on Wednesday Feb 19 to mark Quraish, a Kuwaiti tradition of sharing a meal before the onset of Ramadan.
The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Saud Nasser Diplomatic Institute, Ambassador Nasser Al-Subaih extended a warm welcome to all diplomats who attended the ceremony that saw traditional Kuwaiti dances and songs.
Regarding the event, which the Institute is hosting for the first time, Al-Subaih emphasized that “Quraish” is a Kuwaiti tradition and part of the nation’s heritage, celebrated annually as a family occasion close to Ramadan.
He further added that it was a bridge of goodwill, affection and communication and a form of cultural diplomacy that provided a chance to connect and network.
He noted the Institute’s commitment to honoring it with a unique touch, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, foreign representatives, and international organizations. This, he explained, helps showcase Kuwait’s heritage as an integral part of its society and provides foreign diplomats with a deeper understanding of the environment in which they work.
Importantly, Al-Subaih stated that the Institute hosted diplomats from the Netherlands, Kosovo, Egypt, Mexico, and Russia, as well as a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the General Secretariat. He emphasized that this hosting had significant value, as it allowed the diplomats to learn about Kuwait and its culture.
Regarding the institutes workings, he said 20 students will graduate next May after a year of training and assessment before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking on the occasion the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Tajikistan, H.E. Dr. Zubaydullo Zubaydzoda, stated that the celebration of “Quraish Day” allows diplomatic corps members to learn about Kuwaiti culture and preparations for Ramadan. He emphasized the role of culture in bringing people closer together and highlighted Kuwait’s rich heritage.
