‘Developing the Gulf transport system is key to economic and social growth’

Minister of Public Works Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan emphasized that developing the transportation and communications system stands as one of the most vital pillars of economic and social development in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
In her address to the 27th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Transport and Communications Committee held in Kuwait, and attended by the GCC Secretary-General, Al-Mashaan said that the meeting reflects the continuation of joint Gulf cooperation, built on a unified vision aimed at advancing the transportation sector as a driver of sustainable growth and regional integration.
She highlighted that integration within this vital sector strengthens trade exchange, facilitates the movement of people and goods, supports investment, and deepens fraternal ties among GCC peoples. Among the major initiatives advancing this goal, she noted, is the Gulf Railway Project, which represents a cornerstone of Gulf connectivity and a symbol of unity in achieving shared ambitions, reports Al-Rai daily.
Al-Mashaan, who chaired the meeting, revealed that Kuwait has signed an engineering and design services contract for a 111-kilometer stretch of the Gulf railway line from Nuwaiseeb to Shaddadiya, marking a significant milestone in implementing the Kuwaiti segment of the project.
She stressed that continued coordination among GCC partners seeks to enhance the free movement of people and goods, boost economic and social communication, and establish a comprehensive, sustainable infrastructure that interlinks the Gulf states and serves their collective future.
Al-Mashaan also underscored that technological innovation and digital transformation are now integral to building a modern transport system.
Within the framework of New Kuwait 2035, the country is advancing smart road and port systems, applying digital traffic management and logistics solutions that improve efficiency, safety, and service quality for citizens and residents alike.
