Defense Minister leaves Kuwait to participate in 22nd Shangri-La summit in Singapore

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Sabah, has left for Singapore at the head of an official delegation to participate in the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue Asian Security Summit, one of the most prominent international forums on defense and security affairs in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense on Thursday, the summit scheduled to begin tomorrow, Friday, and run until June 1, is expected to bring together senior defense officials, military commanders, and strategic experts from across the globe to discuss pressing security challenges, defense cooperation, and geopolitical developments impacting the region, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The Ministry affirmed that Sheikh Abdullah’s participation in the Shangri-La Dialogue comes within the framework of Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in the fields of regional and global security.

His attendance reflects Kuwait’s strategic interest in engaging with key security partners, enhancing military diplomacy, and exchanging insights on evolving defense issues.

The summit also provides an opportunity for bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines, where officials will explore ways to bolster military collaboration, joint training initiatives, and regional peacekeeping efforts. Sheikh Abdullah is expected to hold a series of talks with defense ministers and military leaders from participating countries.

The Shangri-La Dialogue, organized annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), serves as a high-level platform for open dialogue on regional tensions, defense modernization, and collective security frameworks.
