Debt relief drive assists 9,119 citizens, promotes social justice and national solidarity

The Ministry of Social Affairs has announced that the third national campaign to settle the debts of financially distressed persons has achieved unprecedented success, raising more than 15 million dinars. The initiative has helped resolve the financial obligations of over 9,000 citizens facing enforcement or detention due to debt.

Organized in partnership with key government and charity organizations — most notably Zakat House, Kuwait Finance House, the Essa Abdullah Al-Othman Endowment, the General Secretariat of Endowments, and various charitable and cooperative societies — the campaign reflects a unified national effort to protect vulnerable members of society, reports Al-Rai daily.

The ministry confirmed that the entire amount raised has been transferred to the General Administration for the Enforcement of Judgments under the Ministry of Justice, where it will be used to settle outstanding legal debts.

Six specialized technical and legal committees, comprising representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Justice, Social Affairs, Islamic Affairs, and Zakat House, reviewed all cases based on transparent and equitable criteria.

Since the campaign’s launch, 9,119 files have been carefully examined in a case-by-case evaluation to ensure eligibility and prevent misuse of funds.

The ministry emphasized that this campaign specifically targets imprisoned or legally pursued indebted citizens, excluding those who have already benefited from the first two campaigns in 2023 and early 2024. This is to widen the scope of support and reach the most underserved groups.

The ministry stressed that this initiative reflects Kuwait’s humanitarian commitment to uphold dignity and foster social cohesion, highlighting the spirit of national solidarity through strong cooperation between the public and charitable sectors.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the ministry’s commitment to transparency and accessibility, noting that citizens can follow up on their applications and inquiries through the “Sahel” app and other electronic platforms.
