Deal signed to combat smoking and promote cancer awareness in Kuwait
The agreement between Kuwait’s Cancer Awareness Nation and the Public Authority for Sports, aims to enhance public health and encourage a healthy lifestyle through sports to prevent chronic diseases and cancer.
• The agreement between CAN and the Public Authority for Sports aims to organize sports events and joint awareness campaigns targeting various segments of society, including youth and school students, and to support cancer initiatives and sports rehabilitation programs for patients during and after treatment.
Kuwait’s Cancer Awareness Nation (CAN), part of the Kuwait Society for Preventing Smoking and Cancer, signed a cooperation agreement with the Public Authority for Sports to jointly combat smoking and raise awareness about cancer, emphasizing the role of sports and physical activity in prevention and treatment, according to Al Rai newspaper.
Board member and treasurer of the society, Dr. Hessa Al-Shaheen, said in a press statement following the signing, “The agreement aims to promote public health and encourage a healthy lifestyle among members of society by promoting sports as a healthy lifestyle that can contribute to the prevention of chronic diseases and cancer.”
She added, “The agreement also aims to organize sports events and joint awareness campaigns targeting various segments of society, including youth and school students, and to support cancer initiatives and sports rehabilitation programs for patients during and after treatment.”
She stressed that the agreement reflects their continued commitment to combating smoking, providing psychological support for cancer patients, and raising awareness about the issue.
For his part, Bashar Abdullah, Acting-Director of the Public Authority for Sports, expressed the authority’s pride in this partnership, which combines sports, humanitarian, and health efforts.
Abdullah added, in a press statement, that through this partnership, the authority aims to raise awareness and encourage society members to adopt healthy lifestyles.
Marathons and sports events to raise cancer awareness
In turn, Nayef Sharar, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Society for Preventing Smoking and Cancer, stated that future plans include organizing marathons and sports events to raise awareness about cancer and smoking, as well as hosting joint seminars on the negative impact of smoking, the importance of physical activity, and establishing dedicated sports training centers.
