Cybercrime gang arrested for stealing bank data via fake government website

The Criminal Security Sector has arrested a gang that specialized in stealing bank card data through fake websites impersonating government agencies. The suspects used the stolen data to buy smartphones intended for smuggling.

The Al-Anba daily quoting security sources said further interrogation with the suspects led to the seizure of electronic devices used for data theft, forged documents, and several smartphones.

The gang members have confessed to creating a fake site mimicking the Public Authority for Civil Information to trick victims via search engines.

They have been referred to the competent authorities, while the Ministry of Interior has urged the public to verify website authenticity and use only official platforms to avoid fraud.
