Customs inspectors seize 22 cartons of cigarettes concealed in flour bags

The General Administration of Customs has thwarted a cigarette smuggling attempt at the Salmi border crossing by smugglers who used custom-designed flour bags to conceal the contraband in a sophisticated manner.

According to authorities, a vigilant customs inspector noticed irregularities in the shape and appearance of several flour bags during the inspection of a vehicle and referred the cargo for a thorough check.

Upon close examination, inspectors found the bags had been specially designed to conceal 22 cartons of cigarettes, professionally sealed and hidden. The method used was described as highly innovative and difficult to detect, indicating a well-coordinated smuggling operation, reports Al-Rai daily.

Following the discovery, the entire cargo was confiscated. The authorities have launched a joint investigation in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Department to identify and arrest those responsible.
The case has now been referred to the competent legal authorities, and further legal action is underway.

This incident highlights the continued vigilance of Kuwait’s customs personnel and underscores the importance of advanced inspection methods in combating smuggling and preserving national security.
