Cumulus clouds paint Kuwait’s sky as rainy season arrives

With the onset of the rainy season, Kuwait’s skies were adorned with cumulonimbus clouds, creating a stunning natural tableau that drew the attention of observers across the country.

Meteorologist Issa Ramadan explained that the dark clouds observed Thursday are known as cumulonimbus, or rain-bearing clouds. “Their base is just hundreds of meters above the ground, but they rise to high altitudes.

Their dark gray hues may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and thunder,” Ramadan told Al-Rai.

He added that these clouds typically form along air fronts and develop under conditions similar to those seen recently.

Looking ahead, meteorologist Fahd Al-Otaibi said that fog and low visibility are expected to continue on Friday, with drizzle anticipated on Saturday. He also noted renewed chances of rain next Monday, as temperatures trend colder.

Educational and administrative authorities began monitoring schools early Thursday to assess any damage caused by the rain. An engineering source confirmed that most schools remained unaffected, with only minor leaks and small water accumulations in courtyards and external corridors.

The General Administration of Educational Facilities and Projects has been preparing for the rainy season since last October, issuing guidelines to schools for cleaning drainage manholes, clearing water networks, and removing debris from rooftops to prevent flooding.

An education source assured that schools are ready to switch to distance learning if emergency weather conditions require it. “All student and staff accounts in the Teams system are active, ensuring continuity of education,” the source said, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining learning regardless of weather disruptions.

The Ministry of Public Works confirmed that emergency teams are conducting continuous field inspections to prevent water accumulation. Engineer Ahmed Al-Saleh, the ministry’s spokesman, said the teams are ensuring water drainage outlets are fully operational and preparing for any future rainfall.
