Cryptocurrency mining in Sabah Al-Ahmad busted, Kuwaiti arrested

Personnel from the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Department of the Criminal Investigation Department have taken into custody a Kuwaiti man for illegal mining of cryptocurrency inside a rented residence in Sabah Al-Ahmad City.
The illegal activity was conducted using high-power mining equipment that consumed excessive electricity, placing a significant burden on Kuwait’s power grid and threatening energy stability. Such practices are prohibited by law due to their impact on national infrastructure, according to security sources.
Investigations revealed that the rented house belongs to a person whose Kuwaiti citizenship was recently revoked. A search warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution, enabling law enforcement to raid the premises.
The suspect has reportedly confessed to resuming operations just 15 days after concealing the equipment, which had initially been hidden during an earlier security sweep.
The confiscated devices were handed over to the authorities, and the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy was alerted to take technical and legal action regarding the electricity theft.
The arrested citizen has been referred to the competent judicial authorities for further legal proceedings. The operation underscores Kuwait’s firm stance against energy abuse and unlicensed financial activities.
