
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, met on Sunday with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
At the start of the meeting, His Highness conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir, reaffirming Kuwait’s support for the vital role of the United Nations and its agencies, and commended the Secretary-General’s efforts to enhance the organization’s effectiveness.
Discussions touched on the session’s key themes, coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary. His Highness congratulated Guterres on this milestone, describing it as a crucial opportunity for the international community to renew its commitment to reforming the organization, strengthening its mechanisms, and advancing its mission in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.
The talks also addressed the high-level meetings of the session, particularly the upcoming conference on the two-state solution, to be co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. Both sides underlined the importance of taking concrete steps toward the recognition of Palestine as a full UN member by influential states.
For his part, Guterres praised Kuwait’s historic and constructive role in supporting the UN’s initiatives to foster global peace, security, and development.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, Amiri Diwan Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Mazen Issa Al-Essa, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai, and members of the official delegation.
The Crown Prince also met with UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Highness conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and congratulated her on gaining the confidence of the international community. He wished her success in carrying out her new duties, affirming Kuwait’s support for her efforts to coordinate among member states to address the substantive issues that are constantly raised at General Assembly meetings.
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, then received US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at His Highness’s residence in New York City and the Miami Mayor Francis Suarez at His Highness’s residence in New York City, USA.
The meeting was attended by Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs at the Amiri Diwan Mazen Al-Essa, Kuwaiti Ambassador to the United States Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, and Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai.
