Court of Appeal convicts former lawmaker Al-Sayer
. . . sets 5,000 dinars bail to suspend the sentence

The Court of Appeal has overturned a lower court ruling that had acquitted former MP Muhannad Al-Sayer, and has sentenced him to two years in prison on charges of broadcasting false news and challenging the powers of His Highness the Amir.
In its verdict, the court ordered that the execution of the sentence be suspended upon the posting of a bail of 5,000 dinars, in accordance with the applicable legal provisions, reports Al-Rai daily.
The case stems from statements attributed to the former lawmaker that prosecutors argued constituted the dissemination of false information and an infringement on constitutional authorities.
While the court of first instance had previously ruled in Al-Sayer’s favor, the Court of Appeal accepted the prosecution’s challenge and reversed the acquittal after reviewing the case file and legal arguments.
The ruling underscores the judiciary’s position on offenses related to public discourse and the dissemination of information, reaffirming the legal boundaries governing expression and respect for constitutional institutions.
