Court acquits two former Sports Authority officials of public funds misuse

The Misdemeanor Court of Cassation has acquitted two former deputies to the Director General of the Public Authority for Sports, overturning a previous one-year prison sentence issued against them for allegedly embezzling public funds.
The two officials had been tried over the disbursement of KD 241,000 in financial support for a local sports competition, reports Al-Anba daily
The Public Prosecution accused them of negligence and dereliction of duty, claiming they approved the funding in violation of applicable regulations, causing serious financial damage to the state.
However, the court accepted the defense argument that the defendants lacked criminal intent and that the disbursement fell within their administrative authority.
The court ruled that their actions did not rise to the level of a criminal offense, leading to their full acquittal.
