Complaint filed against former Speaker Al-Saadoun for allegedly insulting the Amir

Attorney Tahani Sarab has filed a formal complaint with the Public Prosecutor against former National Assembly Speaker Ahmed Al-Saadoun, accusing him of insulting the Amir and spreading false news.
The complaint refers to statements Al-Saadoun made during a public symposium held on April 23, 2017, in the suburb of Abdullah Al-Salem under the title ‘They stole it and destroyed the unity.”
According to Sarab, the remarks included expressions deemed offensive to the Amir, constituting a “blatant transgression and a violation of constitutional values that require respect for the country’s institutions and symbols.”
She added that the video of the event contained rumors and falsehoods that could undermine national unity, weaken the state, and damage its image and prestige — which, she argued, harms Kuwait’s national interests, reports Al-Rai daily.
In her petition, the lawyer requested that the Attorney-General assign the appropriate authority to investigate the content of the complaint and to take the necessary legal measures, including initiating criminal proceedings against Al-Saadoun.
