Committee formed to address fishermen’s stall complaints at Sharq Market

The head of the Fishermen’s Union, Abdullah Al-Sarheed, said the issues facing fishermen’s stalls at the Sharq Market have been resolved following a decision by the Director of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, Dr. Reem Al-Faleej, to form a committee to identify and address these problems.

Al-Sarheed said the decision was reached during a meeting with Dr. Al-Faleej, in which several complaints submitted by stall owners in the Sharq fish market were reviewed.

The discussions focused on recent violations issued against some stalls, which owners explained were, in certain cases, due to circumstances beyond their control.

Speaking to Al-Rai, Al-Sarheed described the meeting as fruitful, noting that it helped clarify key issues affecting stall owners.

He explained that the Sharq Market is currently managed on a temporary basis by a private company, and that coordination is ongoing between the Fishermen’s Union, the Ministry of Finance, and the market’s management to address observations and amend certain conditions in line with the standards and requirements of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition.

He stressed that the shared objective of both the Union and the Authority is to protect consumers by ensuring that fish is provided in a healthy, clean, and safe manner, free from diseases.

Al-Sarheed also praised Dr. Al-Faleej for her cooperation and her decision to form a special committee to examine all challenges facing fishermen’s stalls and take the necessary measures to safeguard their rights while serving the public interest.
