“Commerce Ministry” takes firm steps to control prices ahead of Ramadan

As the holy month of Ramadan nears, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is taking confident steps to stabilize the market and protect consumers from violations.

In this context, sources told Al-Anba that Faisal Al-Ansari, the Director of the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, convened a meeting with the heads of emergency teams to discuss strategies for strengthening field control and broadening the teams’ responsibilities to cover all markets and cooperative societies.

According to sources, the ministry will ramp up inspection tours of meat and date shops, as well as cooperative societies, to monitor food prices. Shops will be asked to pledge not to raise prices before or during the holy month. These measures aim to prevent exploitation of the season, particularly given the surge in demand for essential goods during Ramadan.

The sources emphasized that the ministry has instructed emergency teams to monitor the “Gargee’an” markets, a traditional event celebrated by citizens in the middle of Ramadan. The focus will be on the prices of sweets and nuts, which are central to the occasion enjoyed by children, to ensure there is no manipulation of prices or quality.

Similarly, the sources mentioned that there is coordination between the Ministry of Commerce and the General Authority for Food. Joint teams will conduct inspection tours to verify the expiration dates and safety of food products, particularly in the “Gargee’an” markets, which attract large crowds of families.

The sources concluded by emphasizing that the ministry will not tolerate any attempts to exploit consumers and will take legal action against any party that violates the guidelines, ensuring a safe and stable shopping environment during the holy month.
