Commerce Ministry acts swiftly addressing suspicious shopping festival draws

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s spokesperson, Abdullah Al-Harz, reaffirmed the ministry’s dedication to building consumer confidence and trust in its services. He addressed the recent concerns regarding potential fraud in a shopping festival raffle, emphasizing that such suspicions would not be tolerated. Al-Harz stated that the ministry had already implemented several internal measures to investigate and address the matter, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

Al-Harz further revealed that Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel had issued a decision to establish a fact-finding committee to investigate the violations that occurred during the previous raffle draws. The committee will be led by Adnan Abel, the head of the Kuwait Lawyers Association.

Moreover, Al-Harz pointed out that, following the directives of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Undersecretary Ziad Al-Najem, issued a decision to rotate managers within the Supervision and Consumer Protection Affairs Sector.

Al-Harz explained that the Ministry has formed a committee to monitor current and future draws, as well as to develop mechanisms that will improve the system and prevent any future suspicions.

Importantly, Al-Harz further added that the Minister of Commerce had submitted a referral to the Public Prosecutor with new information concerning the suspicions raised during the draws, following the referral the Ministry had made to the Public Prosecution the previous day.

Al-Harz affirmed the ministry’s commitment to upholding the law by coordinating with security and investigative agencies to provide updates and information related to the incident, ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to restore public confidence in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s procedures and operations.
