Commerce Minister ensures price stability, goods availability for Ramadan

As part of efforts to regulate markets and stabilize prices during Ramadan, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel, conducted an inspection tour of the Qairawan, Seville, and Yarmouk Cooperative Societies.

Al-Ajeel was accompanied by the Chairman of the Union of Cooperative Societies, Ghareeb Al-Adhan, Vice Chairman Talal Al-Kashti, and a team from the Commercial Control Sector.

The visit aimed to ensure the availability of essential goods, prevent price manipulation, and confirm compliance with established standards, reinforcing market stability and safeguarding consumer interests.

The inspection tour covered several cooperative societies across different regions of the country, where the Minister reviewed the availability of food supplies, assessed pricing mechanisms, and ensured that societies adhered to regulations by refraining from unjustified price hikes.

During the tour, Al-Ajeel emphasized the importance of maintaining a steady supply of essential commodities in adequate quantities, particularly given the heightened demand during the holy month.

Al-Ajeel reaffirmed that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will take firm legal action against any violations related to commodity pricing. He emphasized that continuous monitoring is in place to prevent any exploitation of increased demand during Ramadan for illegitimate profit. He further noted that inspection teams are working round the clock, intensifying efforts to detect and address any violations promptly.

While touring, the Minister engaged with cooperative society officials to assess the availability of essential food items, particularly Ramadan-specific commodities, and their ability to meet consumer demand during the holy month. The officials assured him that supplies were sufficient and that commodity movement was being closely monitored to prevent any shortages.

At the conclusion of the tour, Al-Ajeel urged consumers to report any violations, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to protecting consumer rights and maintaining market stability. He emphasized that the ministry will continue its vigilant monitoring throughout Ramadan to ensure the steady supply of goods and prevent unjustified price increases.
