In a dramatic security operation, the General Directorate of Coast Guard foiled an attempt to smuggle a massive haul of narcotics with a street value of approximately 1.3 million dinars.

The authorities said a drone hovering in the atmosphere spotted a suspicious boat recovering bags from the seabed.

The navy and maritime security vessels intercepted the boat and took into custody three men, an employee of the Ministry of Interior, an employee of the General Department of Customs and a Palestinian resident.

During inspection of the boat, the security authorities found eight bags sealed with waterproof material and inside these there were 319 small packages of drugs ready for ‘distribution’ in Kuwait.

The authorities said this is one of the most significant drugs seizures carried out by the maritime personnel, highlighting the Coast Guard’s advanced surveillance and rapid response capabilities in protecting national security and combating smuggling networks are highly successful and effective.
