Co-op Marketing Manager sent to prison for 5 years, ordered to repay KD 105,000
The Criminal Court has sentenced a cooperative society marketing manager to five years in prison and ordered him to repay KD 105,000 after finding him guilty of embezzling funds belonging to the cooperative.
The ruling was issued by a panel headed by Judge Al-Dhuwaihi Al-Dhuwaihi in a case involving alleged financial irregularities and misuse of cooperative assets.
The court also imposed fines of KD 3,000 and KD 5,000 on two members of the cooperative society’s board of directors for their roles in the case. Two other defendants were acquitted of all charges.
According to the Public Prosecution, the defendants unlawfully appropriated goods belonging to the cooperative valued at KD 93,789.
Investigators alleged that board members instructed the market manager to sell goods outside the cooperative through unofficial channels and hand over the proceeds without recording the transactions or depositing the funds into the cooperative’s accounts.
Prosecutors said the scheme enabled the defendants to seize the proceeds of the sales unlawfully and conceal the transactions from official records, reports a local Arabic daily.
The market manager was also convicted of misappropriating funds related to two invoices valued at KD 11,280.
In addition, one of the board members faced charges of abusing his authority and causing financial losses to the cooperative through unauthorized changes to rental contracts, cancellation of discount arrangements, and the purchase of electronic receiving devices deemed unnecessary for the cooperative’s operations.
The Public Prosecution estimated the resulting financial damage as tens of thousands of dinars.
The court’s verdict marks the conclusion of a case involving allegations of embezzlement, financial misconduct, and abuse of authority within the cooperative society.
