‘Clump of spider eggs’ baffles scientists

It looks like a plate of lentils, or a clump of spider eggs on a leaf, but whatever it is, a small brown rock recently found on Mars has baffled scientists.

New images taken by NASA’s Perseverance rover this month reveal an alien-like mass made up of hundreds of one-millimeter-sized spheres.

Scientists are still unsure what strange geology might have formed the rock’s unusual shapes, which are unlike anything they’ve seen before.

But whatever it is, it looks out of place against the surrounding rusty red Martian dust, according to the Daily Mail.

These strange rocks could hint at the rich volcanic and geological history of the Red Planet, which is around 4.6 billion years old.
