Citizens, residents urged to conserve power, as heatwave pushes load to critical levels

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has issued an urgent call to citizens and residents to conserve electricity, especially during peak hours, in light of the ongoing intense heatwave.

The Al-Jarida daily, quoting electricity sources said, Monday, the temperatures soared to 51°C, with the electrical load index reaching 16,886 megawatts, edging close to the critical 17,000-megawatt mark.

In a statement on the “Sahel” government application, the ministry emphasized that rationalizing energy consumption is a shared social responsibility. It noted that public cooperation is essential to ensure the stability of the national electricity grid and to prevent outages during periods of high demand.

Residents were urged to limit the use of major electrical appliances during peak hours and to adopt energy-saving habits to help maintain overall grid efficiency.

The ministry stressed that community-wide action is especially vital during the current climate conditions, which are placing unprecedented pressure on Kuwait’s energy infrastructure.
