Citizen admits selling visas for cash; Syrian, Indian intermediaries in police custody

The General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations in Kuwait, through its Inspection Department, has uncovered a significant case of residency trafficking involving the illegal registration of workers in exchange for money.

According to Al-Rai daily, the authorities acting on a tipoff a tip off a Kuwaiti citizen, authorized to sign on behalf of 25 companies and 4 affiliated institutions, was using these establishment to unlawfully register workers.

During through investigation, the authorities discovered 56 workers had been registered under various companies, 3 were found to be in violation of residency laws and another 3 had breached visa conditions. Some of the workers were discovered to be employed by companies other than the ones that had sponsored them.

When summoned for interrogation and confronted with evidence, the suspect confessed to selling residency permits — 350 to 1,200 dinars per worker through two intermediaries, a Syrian and an Indian.

All individuals involved in the case have been referred to the relevant legal authorities for prosecution.
