Churches across Kuwait – model of tolerance and peaceful coexistence – celebrate Easter

Spiritual atmosphere reflects love, tolerance, and religious coexistence — principles that embody Kuwait’s long-standing reputation as a country of peace and humanity.

Easter in Kuwait is primarily celebrated by the Christian expatriate community, remains an important spiritual and cultural occasion for many residents, especially those from Western countries, India, the Philippines, and other nations with Christian populations. The day is observed with joy, reflection, and a sense of community, particularly among the faithful who gather to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Churches in Kuwait, such as the Holy Family Cathedral in Kuwait City and the National Evangelical Church, and St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral hold special Easter services that include prayers, hymns, and sermons reflecting the message of hope and renewal.

These services often begin with Palm Sunday and extend through Holy Week, culminating in vibrant Easter Sunday masses. The spirit of the holiday is deeply felt within church premises and among Christian communities.

The St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Kuwait held the Glorious Easter Mass on Saturday evening in a spiritual atmosphere reflecting love, tolerance, and religious coexistence—principles that embody Kuwait’s long-standing reputation as a country of peace and humanity.

The Mass was led by Father Bigol Anba Bishoy, pastor of the Cathedral. During the service, speakers emphasized Kuwait’s role as a beacon of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among various faiths and nationalities.

Egyptian Ambassador Osama Shaltout extended greetings to the Coptic community on behalf of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, reaffirming the deep-rooted Kuwaiti-Egyptian ties and praising Kuwait’s consistent support for the Egyptian community.

Father Bigol conveyed his gratitude to Kuwait, especially to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, for fostering a society built on tolerance and brotherhood.

He also thanked His Highness the Crown Prince, the government led by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah, the Al-Sabah family, and the people of Kuwait. In his sermon, Father Bigol reflected on the meaning of life and death, emphasizing that man’s true life begins with eternity and not with earthly existence.

He extended heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Interior, led by Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, for securing the Easter celebrations, and to all supporting government bodies and media organizations.

Father Bigol expressed appreciation for the congratulations received from dignitaries, ministers, diplomats, academics, clergy, businesspeople, associations, and public figures, highlighting the spirit of national unity and shared joy. On the second day of celebrations, the Cathedral welcomed diplomats and public figures.
