Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Zhang Jianwei affirmed that Kuwaiti-Chinese relations have seen exceptional growth over the past three years, driven by the strategic leadership of both nations.
Ambassador Jianwei reflected on his diplomatic tenure, noting that high-level meetings between the Chinese President and His Highness the Amir of Kuwait significantly deepened political cooperation and mutual support in international forums. He emphasized China’s continued and unwavering support for Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reports Al-Rai daily.
The Chinese envoy revealed that bilateral trade reached over $16 billion in 2024, with China maintaining its position as Kuwait’s top trading partner for the tenth consecutive year. He noted qualitative progress in trade sectors, especially in renewable energy, 5G networks, and the digital economy, aligning with the Belt and Road Initiative and New Kuwait Vision 2035.
The ambassador also highlighted the contribution of around 60 Chinese companies working on key infrastructure and development projects in Kuwait, stating that efforts are ongoing to implement previously signed agreements, with additional projects set to launch soon.
On the cultural front, Ambassador Jianwei praised the growing interest of Kuwaiti youth in Chinese language and culture. He pointed to the opening of Kuwait’s first Chinese cultural center and a smart classroom for language education, alongside active cultural exchange initiatives. He encouraged Kuwaiti youth to visit and study in China to experience its culture firsthand.
In a heartfelt message, Jianwei expressed deep appreciation for the kindness and hospitality of the Kuwaiti people. “What I will miss most is the generosity and warmth I felt during my visits to more than 250 diwaniyas. I felt like a member of a large Kuwaiti family,” he said. He also shared his family’s fondness for Kuwaiti cuisine, naming majboos, harees, Arabic coffee, and luqaimat among their favorites.
As his tenure concludes, the ambassador announced that his successor will be named soon and expressed full confidence in the continuation of strong bilateral ties. “Our embassy will remain committed to supporting the strategic partnership, and I will always be a loyal friend to Kuwait and its people,” he said.
