China delivers world’s largest car carrier with 10,800-vehicle capacity to South Korea

China has announced the delivery of the world’s largest car carrier, capable of transporting up to 10,800 vehicles, marking a significant milestone in global maritime logistics and shipbuilding.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the vessel, named Glovis Leader, was constructed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation Limited and delivered in the southern city of Guangzhou to a South Korean shipping operator.

The carrier measures 230 meters in length and 40 meters in width, with a draft of 10.5 meters, and is designed to travel at a speed of 19 knots (around 35 km/h), making it one of the most advanced vessels of its kind.

A key feature of the 14-deck ship is its dual propulsion system, which allows it to operate on both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional fuel, significantly reducing emissions and enhancing operational efficiency.

The vessel complies with Tier 3 emission standards set by the International Maritime Organization, highlighting China’s growing role in supporting environmentally sustainable solutions within the global shipping industry.
