The Al-Ajairi Scientific Center announced on Saturday the winners of the Arab Astronomy Photography Competition, with six photographers from Kuwait and across the Gulf taking top honors.
The contest was organized under the Center’s sponsorship, in cooperation with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), the Department of Physics at Kuwait University, and under the umbrella of the Kuwait Space Research Center.
Director-General Yousef Al-Ajairi told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the competition attracted dozens of photographers from Kuwait, the GCC, and other Arab countries, who competed in three themed categories – ‘Blood Moon’, ‘Phases of a Lunar Eclipse’ and ‘Lunar Eclipse with a Natural Landscape’.
Winners from Kuwait:
- Dawood Saba’a – Lunar Eclipse with a Natural Scenery
- Samira Mahmoud – Phases of a Lunar Eclipse
- Khaled Al-Mutairi – Blood Moon
Winners from the Arabian Gulf:
- Qassim Hamad (Oman) – Eclipse with a Natural Scenery
- Fahad Al-Harbi (Saudi Arabia) – Phases of a Lunar Eclipse
- Majid Al-Fara’i (Oman) – Total Lunar Eclipse
Al-Ajairi highlighted that such initiatives nurture scientific curiosity and artistic passion for astronomy, encouraging students, researchers, and enthusiasts to explore celestial phenomena through both observation and creativity.
He added that the Center and its partners aim to promote a culture of scientific discovery across Arab societies — uniting art, science, and imagination under one sky.
