Cassation upholds death sentence for school guard in rape case of expatriate teacher

The Court of Cassation has issued a final ruling sentencing an expatriate school guard to death after convicting him of ‘kidnapping and rape’ of a female expatriate teacher inside a school premises.
According to the case file, the Public Prosecution charged the defendant with raping the teacher while she was at work. The assault took place when the school guard surprised the victim inside her office, attacked her, and committed the crime against her will, reports Al-Rai daily.
Despite repeatedly denying the charges, the accused was confronted with CCTV footage showing him entering the teacher’s office, locking the door behind him, and remaining inside during the time of the assault. When shown the footage in court, the defendant remained silent and offered no explanation for his actions.
The court found that the evidence presented was irrefutable, particularly the video surveillance and the forensic evidence supporting the teacher’s testimony, establishing beyond reasonable doubt that the crime had occurred as narrated by the victim.
The case drew widespread attention, given the gravity of the crime and its occurrence within a school setting, which is meant to be a safe and secure environment, especially for staff and students.
The verdict by the Court of Cassation is final and cannot be appealed, marking the end of the appeals process and confirming the maximum legal penalty for the offender.
