‘Cassation’ postpones Talal Al-Khaled embezzlement appeals to March 9

The Court of Cassation has adjourned the two embezzlement cases involving former minister Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah to the March 9 session to allow the defense to complete its arguments.
The cases relate to alleged financial irregularities in the ministries of Interior and Defense. Sheikh Talal had previously appealed two rulings issued by the Court of Ministers, which sentenced him to 14 years in prison, fined him KD 20 million, and ordered him to repay KD 10 million, reports Al-Rai daily.
The adjournment came after the Cassation Court noted that the earlier ruling did not sufficiently detail the evidence supporting the convictions on embezzlement and money-laundering charges.
The court cited the connection and unity of the incidents, as well as the interest of proper judicial proceedings, in its decision to postpone the hearings.
The next session is expected to continue reviewing the defense’s submissions and the legal grounds of the appeal.
