Cassation overturns prison sentence for traffic officer, orders to pay 500 dinars bail instead

The Court of Cassation has overturned a seven-year prison sentence previously issued against a traffic officer accused of diverting vehicles.
In a final ruling, the Court decided to refrain from imposing any penalty on the officer, instead ordered him to sign a pledge of good conduct and ordered his release on 500 dinars bail, eports Al-Rai.
The Court also extended the same leniency to other employees involved in the case, ordering them to pay an equivalent bail amount in lieu of criminal punishment. The ruling came after a successful defense by attorney Ali Al-Asfour, representing the main defendant.
The decision marks a significant shift from the initial harsh judgment, reflecting the court’s acceptance of the defense’s arguments and its consideration of mitigating circumstances surrounding the case.
