‘Cassation’ issues final verdict in case of Lebanese doctor

The Court of Cassation has upheld a five-year prison sentence and a fine of 5,000 Kuwaiti dinars each against two men in uniform, a female Kuwaiti doctor, an Iraqi man, and two stateless people (bedoun).

The group has been convicted of kidnapping the Lebanese doctor Imad Saab and planting narcotics on him in an attempt to falsely implicate him in drug trafficking.

The verdict marks the final stage of legal proceedings in a high-profile case that has drawn significant public attention due to the malicious nature of the accusations, reports Al-Rai daily.

Earlier, the Criminal Court had sentenced a detective, a low-ranking officer, and other key figures of orchestrating the case against Dr. Saab to 10 years in prison.

The court had also acquitted a sergeant, a dentist, and a secretary who were also implicated in the case during investigations.

This final judgment by the Court of Cassation reinforces the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring accountability in cases involving abuse of authority, fabricated charges, and violations of personal freedoms.
